We took the morning train from Zagreb to Ljubljana yesterday. Traveling by train is far and away my favorite mode of transportation. You can book with little to no forethought, it’s cheap (€10!), it’s easy, convenient, comfortable and safe.
We went to the corner market and purchased a few simple things to stock the fridge and pantry. Markets in Europe are cut-to-the-chase, get-the-job-done efficient… Who really needs Band-Aids decorated with every conceivable cartoon character, superhero and Disney princess?
We made truffle tortellini with a marinara sauce with olives, kielbasa sausage and shredded mozzarella for dinner. We enjoyed a bottle of local organically grown Reisling that are AirBnB host graciously provided.
For breakfast… scrambled eggs and, you guessed it, kielbasa sausage and mozzarella with apricot juice and coffee. Surely, this will make up for world-class dining tomorrow night! Staying tuned on this blog for the full scoop!
An extra latte to warm the soul during a chilly September day.
The chocolate shoppe…
The obligatory selfie in front of the Franciscan church and Triple Bridge in downtown Ljubljana.
Unpasteurized fresh milk (yes, out of a vending machine). Delicious!
And for dinner… one of my favorites… a simple and elegant Mergharita pizza with a thin crust cooked to perfection in an authentic Italian wood-burning pizza oven. It doesn’t get better than that!
